Board Member Profiles

Mark Calliou

Mark Calliou was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta, but spent his childhood in Hythe, Alberta.  Mr. Calliou has been married for thirty two years and has two sons and five grandchildren. In the past, he has held a variety of interesting jobs and is now the Manager of Capacity and Regional Support for Alberta Environment.  He is responsible to implement the First Nations Consultation Guidelines, as well as, the development of the Métis Guidelines for consultation.  These guidelines will ensure effective application to regulatory work such as Environmental Impact Assessments, Industrial/Municipal water approvals, oil sands support and training Alberta Environment staff on consultation policy and Aboriginal relations in Alberta.

Mr. Calliou earned a Diploma in Business Administration from the Grande Prairie Regional College and then went on to achieve his law Degree at the University of Ottawa.  Mark considers his education and humour a valuable asset and loves to work at the grassroots level where he enjoys the interaction with his peers.

Mark thoroughly enjoys the work involved with NCFNG.  He is truly honored to work with Satsan (Herb George) and NCFNG’s team who work nationally to assist First Nations to achieve good governance.
