Jaret Cardinal
Jaret is a Cree member of the Sucker Creek First Nation, Alberta; which is a signatory to Treaty No. 8. Mr. Cardinal has been married for almost eight years to wife Becki. They have two children; Adam 3 years old and Mya 9 months. Over the past ten years, Jaret has been working on a variety of governance related issues with the First Nations in Treaty No. 8 and more recently with all 47 First Nations in the Alberta Region. Currently, he is Chief of Staff with the Assembly of First Nations Alberta Region; currently working with our Chiefs to re-establish the Regional Alberta Political Structure. His most recent accomplishment is being elected Chief of the Sucker Creek First Nation on November 28, 2006. Jaret’s experience in governance related issues compliments the work of the National Centre for First Nations Governance. Since being recruited to the National Members Council of the NCFNG, it has been his hope to contribute even more effectively as a member of the NCFNG Board of Directors. It is his desire to see the National Centre for First Nations Governance develop appropriate tools for our communities that will guide them toward a path of self-governance based on our inherent authorities as nations. Further, it is his hope to see tools created that will help facilitate the implementation of Treaty based governance.
