Board Member Profiles

Luc Laine

A sociology graduate from Laval University in Quebec City, Luc Lainé is a member and ex delegate Chief of the Huron-Wendat Nation. He has carried his professional activities within many Canadian and Aboriginal organizations as well as in the private sector.  During his professional experiences for the Huron-Wendat Nation, the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples and the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, Mr. Lainéwas required to work in consultation with several Canadian Native organizations across the country.  At the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples, he served as deputy-director in the Public Participation Directorate which was responsible to plan and organize public hearings across the country.  Luc is deemed to be a valuable contributor by Native associations given his experience and his elaborate diplomatic approach. His involvement, along with his general knowledge of Native Peoples, makes him a highly appreciated resource.  From 1997 to 1998, he worked as a consultant and chargé d'affairs for an aboriginal affairs consulting firm.  From 1994 to 1996, Luc was concurrently working as executive assistant for the Huron-Wendat Nation Grand Chief and as member of the tripartite negotiation team involving the federal and provincial governments. From 1989 to 1992, he worked as executive assistant for the Huron-Wendat Nation Grand Chief.  From 1985 to 1988, Mr. Lainéworked for the Office of Protocol within the Department of Foreign Affairs and as agent with the Public Affairs Program for Latin America and West Indies.  From 1978 to 1985, he worked for the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development as a community planning regional agent. He worked with the majority of the Québec First Nations communities.  In July 2005, Luc was appointed by the Office of the Privy Council as the Aboriginal Commissioner to the 400th anniversary of Québec City.

He is currently President of a cultural productions company, K8e K8e inc. (www.k8e.ca) specializing in television productions.  Mr. Lainé is member of several boards such as la Fondation dialogue des cultures, le Forum francophone des affaires, Aboriginal Voices Radio inc. and the National Centre for First Nations Governance.
