Basil Quewezance
Regional Manager - Prairies
Basil Quewezance is from the Keeseekoose Saulteaux Nation in Southern Saskatchewan, Treaty 4 Territory. Basil has six children and eight grandchildren. Basil had a large family of nine but did not grow up with his siblings as he was a student of the residential school for five years. When his mother Amelia passed away, at age nine, he was made a ward of the government and raised in foster homes and group homes but always managed to stay connected with his community of Keeseekoose, which he still proudly calls home.
Basil believes that education, awareness and knowing ones origins, will lead to successfully exerting our inherent rights. He admits that his mother did not have a formal education but she knew the concept of Inherent Rights. She said we were born with these rights.
Basil joins the NCFNG team as the Prairie Regional Manager. He looks forward to working with our First Nations in the Prairie Region and re-igniting their interest in exerting their Inherent Rights. He firmly believes that our people are ready to fully exert their Inherent Rights and some are already doing this.
