Jocelyne Wasacase-Merasty

Jocelyne Wasacase-Merasty is an innovative communications leader with 14 years experience in the field of communications, public relations, marketing and First Nations governance having been employed in various senior management positions. She is an accomplished editor and author of many diverse corporate and community-based publications such at the Saskatchewan Indian magazine.

Jocelyne first started working at NCFNG in 2007 as the Prairie Regional Policy and Implementation Officer. In 2008, she took a brief leave from the Centre to work at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology as the Manager of Communications. The scope of her position focused on internal communications, marketing, corporate branding and crisis communications. After a year, Jocelyne returned to the Centre and is happy to be working with the Centre and the First Nation community again.

Jocelyne's past employment includes working for the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations as the Communication's Manager, Editor of Saskatchewan Indian magazine, the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) as the Director of Communications and acting Vice President of Corporate Affairs.

It was at SIGA where she was first introduced to the concept of blending traditional understanding into modern-day governance practices. Jocelyne undertook a project to incorporate SIGA's strategic plan and five First Nation guiding principles adopted from the book; "Treaty Elders of Saskatchewan" into its governance structure. This model has since won the Conference Board of Canada 2008 Governance Award - non-profit sector for the establishment of cultural principles as the core of its mission and governing policies.

Jocelyne has a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Communications from Royal Roads University in Victoria, BC. She is a First Nation member of the Kahkewistahaw First Nation. Jocelyne is married to Robert Merasty and together they are raising their four boys; Corbin, Chase, Rhys and Noah in Saskatoon.
