STAFF Profiles

Larry Spence

Ontario Regional Manager

Larry is a proud member of Constance Lake First Nation, a community approximately 500 kms east of Thunder Bay. He obtained his Management Diploma from Confederation College, specializing in First Nation Administration. After graduating, he obtained a contract with the Ministry of Colleges and Universities as an Assistant to the General Manager and a Computer Assistant. He then moved on to full time employment with the Office of the Registrar General as a Team Representative. After several years, he was assigned an Acting Manager position with the Document Processing Unit and then was promoted to Team Manager of the Registration Unit overseeing a diverse staff of twenty-five people. During his tenure in management, he took various professional development courses in Human Resources, Management, Diversity and Staff Development.

Larry then moved on to the Federal Government, specifically for Canada Customs and Revenue Agency enrolling in the Aboriginal Development Program. The Program provided an excellent opportunity for training in the four core business lines for the CCRA namely, Collections, Client Services, Audit and Customs.

After successfully completed the program, he moved on to work for various Aboriginal Organizations. He was employed as a Human Resources Administrator with Tikinagan Child & Family Services on a contract basis. More recently, he was the Community Development Officer with Matawa Employment & Training; overseeing the employment and training programs for the Matawa communities. Matawa Tribal Council has a membership of ten Ojibway and Cree First Nations communities in the Nishnawbe Aski Nation territory.

Larry currently resides in Thunder Bay. He is also an active member of his community; he is a member of the Aboriginal Police Liaison Unit, the Aboriginal Employment Resource Committee and the Regional Enhancement Committee for the North Superior Training Board.
